Amavubi’s preparation for next month’s 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Egypt in Cairo has taken a twist after reports that summoned players from APR have not joined camp.
Goalkeeper Jean Claude Ndoli, Ismail Nshutiyamagara, Elias Ntaganda, Jean Bosco Uwacu, Arafat Serugendo, Eric Gasana, Jean Mugiraneza, Mutesa Mafisango, Haruna Niyonzima, Bokota Labama Kamana and Elias Uzamukunda are all said to have stayed with their army side which is scheduled to feature in this year’s East African Military Games which start this afternoon.
A close source to the Amavubi camp yesterday disclosed that Amavubi Head Coach Tucak Branko is working with 16 players at the moment and will do so until June 25 when the Games end.
As part of Rwanda’s preparations for the Egypt tie on July 5, Amavubi Stars will play an international friendly against DR Congo on June 30.
Rwanda’s dream of making a debut World Cup appearance, let alone a second appearance in Africa’s Nations Cup, suffered a huge setback after their 0-1 away defeat against Zambia.
The defeat now presents Amavubi with a steeper mountain to climb if they are to make the Angola trip.
Egypt’s 1-3 loss to Algeria loss further complicated the equation for Amavubi as they have to get a result in Cairo to boost their chances.
In Lusaka, the wasps could have conceded a many goals if it were not for the heroics of Jean Claude Ndoli. The APR stopper made over ten top quality saves including a penalty.
Rainford Kalaba, who plays his football in Portugal with Sporting Braga, scored the lone goal of the game.
Algeria, who are level on points (four) with Zambia top the group on goal difference. Rwanda and Egypt are also separated on goal difference in the third and fourth place.
