The Police Women’s Volleyball team will be looking to pull a major upset early in the women volleyball league season when they go up against defending champions APR on Friday, October 25 at 5 PM.
Police were off to a strong start to the season, registering a commanding 3-0 win over East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) in their season opener.
They are now taking on APR who had an impressive off-season during which they won the 2024 Nyerere Cup victory in Tanzania.
APR may be a strong team which is looking to defend their title but, in an exclusive interview with Times Sport, Police head coach Christian Hatumimana said that their upcoming meeting will be one that could end either way.
He said that his team is ready to rise and pass APR challenge.
"I really enjoy competing against tough teams, as it provides valuable feedback on how well we’ve prepared, we can’t be afraid of APR. It&039;s normal to win or lose, but on our side, we’re fully prepared for the game,” Hatumimana told Times Sport.
APR, the reigning champions, are widely considered one of the strongest teams in the league and they will return to the new campaign as the favorites to win the league again.
But Hatumimana is confident that Police has the necessary tools to put up a fight against any opponent, and APR is no particular.
He specifically highlighted the strength of his team’s outside and opposite hitters, who he believes will play a crucial role in the match.
"APR shouldn’t underestimate our outside and opposite hitters, as they are currently the strongest part of our team," he said.

Hatumimana still regrets finishing the 2023/24 season without the title before firing a warning to rivals that his team is back to challenge for the title again.
"In the 2023/24 season, we gave it our all, but this year, we want to be champions. We’ve started the season in an energetic mood and we are determined to win this time around."
