Shabani delighted after powering AS Kigali at the top

AS Kigali striker Shabani ‘Tschabalala’ Hussein is over the moon after helping his side move at the top of table of the Rwanda Premier League.

The Burundi international was on target as the Citizens beat Vision FC 2-1 at Kigali Stadium on Monday, October 21. The result saw them leapfrog Police FC to lead the league standings after six match days.

Shabani’s goal scoring form has been crucial to AS Kigali’s impressive performance as his strike against Vision FC saw him increase his tally to three league goals so far this campaign

"I am happy to score a goal but, more importantly, a goal which moved my team the top. All I can do is thank these teammates for their hard work. We want to keep winning as many games as possible,” the experienced striker said.

"It is always important to score as a striker but the most important thing is to earn three points. I am delighted to be part of this club and I am looking forward to doing much better," he added

AS Kigali have now booked the first place with 13 points, leapfrogging Police FC who dropped to second with 12 points. Rayon Sports and Gorilla FC are tied to 11 points in third and fourth places respectively.

Meanwhile, Monday’s loss means Vision FC remains bottom with just two points from six games.

The league resumes on the weekend of October 25-27. Only teams which have less than three players in Amavubi team preparing for Djibouti clash in the preliminary round of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. Both matches will take place in Kigali between October 27 and October 31.
