Kenya and Uganda cyclists have spiced up the Inaugural Kwita Izina cycling challenge tour which sets off today. Both countries have contributed twelve cyclists to the two-day event bankrolled by Rwanda development board under ORPTN (Rwanda office of Tourism and national Parks).

The national cycling federation (Ferwacy) Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Murenzi confirmed this yesterday and has predicted a tough tour.

"With the Ugandans and Kenyans, I expect it to be a very competitive event,’ he said.

The foreign legion together with about 45 local cyclists will ride to Rubavu today before riding back (Kigali) tomorrow.

The overall winner of the 350km competition will pocket Rwf 0.5 million, while the top 25 cyclists will also walk away with cash prizes.

Kwita Izina is the first local competition on this year’s national cycling calendar.
