KIGALI - Senator Agnes Mukabaramba has been voted in as the new chairperson of Partie Democrate Centriste (PDC), replacing former Speaker of Parliament Alfred Mukezamfura. Over the weekend, PDC convened and elected Sen. Mukabaramba as new party boss.

PDC was formed by former minister and Member of Parliament Nayinzira Jean Nepomuscene  in 1990.

Speaking to The New Times, Mukabaramba said; "my predecessor wrote to the party’s administration resigning from the post of party president.” She added that Mukezamfura indicated that he was resigning for health reasons.

The new party president however expressed no interest in contesting for Presidential elections, saying that she plans to concentrate on maintaining the party’s parliamentary seats.

Senator Mukabaramba, a lawyer by profession, is currently a member of the Pan African Parliament and a Vice- President of the Senatorial Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security. She also served as the deputy Speaker of the Transitional Parliament.
