Challenging them closely were Germans Daniel Gathof and Peter Schermann, who finished 48 seconds behind. Gathof, winner of 2023 Rwandan Epic, along with Bart Classens, couldn’t get hold of de Froidmont and Baumans’ pace and they will need to react when they return to action on Tuesday.

German rider Banzi Bukhari and his Rwandan counterpart Didier Munyaneza emerged in third place, trailing 1 minute and 43 seconds at the top.
