Dear Editor,
The recent initiative by the local authorities in Ruhengeri town to pull down old structures and maintain cleanness is a good move. However, a specific administration should be set up to over see the development.
A particular administration would ensure proper urban planning. I’m convinced that leaving everything to the sector executive secretary overwhelms him as he has to address other social, economic and political responsibilities.
I also commend authorities for banning the use of bicycles in town, because it has reduced the number of accidents. Petty crimes like theft and robbery have also reduced, thanks to police and local leaders’ vigilance.
In order to sustain this, I appeal to fellow residents to cooperate with police by reporting all suspicious cases. The district should also carry out regular inspection of restorant and bars in order to maintain hygiene.
