Chad Bowie, the son of former Orlando Magic shooting guard Anthony Lee Bowie, is enjoying success in Rwanda where he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2023/2024 regular season.

The 28-year-old point guard, who features for Kepler basketball, had an impressive 2024 season which he finished as the top scorer with 410 points. He also made 62 steals on top of being the third best three-point shooter with 54 points scored from three pointers.

At Kepler, Bowie finds himself in arguably one of the most ambitious sports projects in the country; and this is showcased, in part, by how the team earned a playoffs slot on its debut season of the topflight.

Bowie previously plied his trade in the US and Canada. He revealed his move to Rwanda was motivated by the fact that he wanted to expand his experience and show his level of play. He was also eager to experience new things and see new places.

"I love it, the country and the basketball game here. A lot of people show love out here and it’s very peaceful,” he told Times Sport.

The father on one said that his family has played a big role in his performance this season, as he says that it is not just him anymore.

"I have a one-year-old son that I have to provide for so I’m just trying to make sure his future is better than mine and just make sure he doesn’t have to worry about anything,” he said.

"When I first joined the league, I was just trying to see how far we can get as a team. I love to win, so I wasn’t really worried about the individual accolades. I feel like it’s bigger than that but it’s a bonus if you achieve those goals as well for sure.”

"I love to compete and win and my teammates and coach believed in me. I couldn’t do it without them,” he added.

Kepler were eliminated from playoffs after Patriots slapped them a clean sweep in the semi-finals.

Bowie, however, insists they did not lose because they were the underdogs, just like many might have assumed.

"I feel like we made mistakes ourselves that put us in a hole throughout the series. I just feel like they were kind of more experienced than we were because they have older guys who have been in the top league and played there before.”

"This upcoming season, We’ll see what happens. I can’t speak on anything right now. Just plan on coming back stronger than last season,” he noted.

Asked what the future holds for him, he said that he is ‘not sure right now’ but would like to come back and play.

"But we will see if we can come to an agreement with the contract.”

Bowie was born in Italy, but he is originally from Orlando, Florida. He later moved to Houston, Texas in his eighth grade year.

He studied kinesiology in college, but basketball has been a childhood dream.

"My father played in the NBA and overseas. My mother, my brother, and my sister also played basketball. So you can say basketball has been in my blood since I was born,” he said.
