Karate fans in the country are in for a good treat after reports that one of the sport’s legends Masao Kawasoe (pic) is set to visit next month.
The grand master, who hails from Japan will have a one-week working visit in Rwanda. During this time, he will hold various clinics with local coaches.
The technical director in the National Karate federation Guy Rurangayire expects Kawasoe’s visit to be a huge plus for Rwandan karate.
"Most of the local coaches don’t have top level training so this is a huge opportunity for them to learn from the man himself,” Rurangayire said.
Kawasoe has a record eight black belts and is rated to be one of the finest karate masters in the world.
The 64-year-old is the technical director in the International traditional Karate federation but also doubles as the chief instructor for UK, Russia and Poland.
