KCB/BPR Rwanda racing team driver Karan Patel and his co-driver Tauseef Khan put themselves in pole position to defend their African Rally Championship (ARC) title as the move closer to victory in Rwanda.

The Kenyan star driver, who drives Skoda Fabia R5, proved yet again his worth after winning Day Two of the 2024 Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally played in the dusty roads of Bugesera on Saturday, October 19, driving the distance of 175.40km within 58 minutes and 46 seconds.

He finished 8 minutes and 17.5 second ahead of second placed Michael Mukula. Karan currently sits at the apex of the ARC leaderboard with 105 points.

Some 20 cars, including five ARC drivers, started Saturday’s stage before Uganda’s Jonas Kansiime Jonas and his co-pilot Aaron Nsamba pulled out of the race.

The ongoing car racing of the ARC’s nine-race series, has not been a good for local drivers at all. Giancalo Davite who plays with Sandrine Isheja after their car had a problem that prevented them to beat their countrymen, including Christian Kanangire, Nasser Mutebi and Jean Claude Gakwaya who came ahead of them.

The Mitsubishi EvoX racers finished in seventh place covering the 24.5 miles of the nine lap event in 1 hour, 14 minutes and 56 seconds.

Queen Kalimpinya, who was driving her Subaru Impreza, also showed that she has got used to the car and Bugesera road as she finished sixth in the national championship which was won by countryman Christian Kanangire.

The winner of the race on the African Championship schedule gets 30 points, second 24, third 21, fourth 19 and fifth 17, sixth gets 15, seventh 13 and eighth 11 respectively.

The final day of the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally 2024 will be played on Sunday in Bugesera.
