Gisagara Volleyball Club made their title ambitions noticed after opening match of the 20224/25 National volleyball league campaign with a convincing win over 2023/24 runners-up Kepler in three straight sets 27-25, 25-22, 25-21 on Saturday, October 19.
The highly anticipated clash saw the Southern Province-based team deliver a commanding performance which, from start to finish, left volleyball enthusiasts at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium entertained.
Led by captain Gloire Niyonkuru, Gisagara showcased excellent teamwork and attacking prowess, with outside hitter Kathbart Malinga orchestrating plays that left Kepler defense scrambling throughout the three sets.
They took control early in the match, taking the first set 27-25. Despite some resistance in the second set, where Kepler briefly led, Gisagara held their nerves and displayed composure in crucial moments, taking the set 25-22. The third set was no different as they closed out the match with a 25-21 set victory.
Earlier in the day, East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) men’s team opened their league campaign with a win over RP Ngoma College (RPN) in a four-set thriller (24-26,25-14,25-20,25-17).
Meanwhile, in women’s category, Ruhango Volleyball Club (RVC) continued their winning streak, putting three sets past Wisdom School (WSD) (25-14,25-22,25-18).
Police Volleyball club(PVC) also defeated East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR) 3-0(25-22,25-13,25-16).
Kepler will now turn their attention to their next match against Kigali volleyball club (KVC) while in women’s league while APR will begin their title defense against Police on October 25.
