Christus Regnant Choir to raise funds for school feeding programme
Saturday, October 19, 2024

Renowned Rwandan Catholic choir, Christus Regnant, is gearing up for an evening of worship in a concert dubbed ‘I Bweranganzo’ scheduled for November 3 at Lemigo Hotel. The money raised from the concert will serve as a contribution to ‘Dusangire Lunch’ campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging parents and communities to contribute to school feeding programme.

The national school feeding program has proven to be an effective strategy not only for ensuring children’s nutritional needs are met but also for improving enrollment, retention, and academic performance. Since its expansion across the country in 2021, primary school dropout rates have decreased by 4 per cent.

Currently, the Rwandan government covers 90 per cent of the feeding costs per child, with parents contributing about Rwf 1,000 per term.

According to choir president Jeremie Bizimana, the money raised during the concert will be donated to Ecole Secondaire Saint Joseph le Travailleur (ESSJT), a school they identified as ‘needing support.’

"We rehearse at that school and, from our observation, we noticed that many students struggle to afford meals and other school supplies. This inspired us to take action, as we regularly engage in charity work.,” Bizimana told The New Times.

"Our concert celebrates God, culture, and humanity, and we believe this initiative aligns perfectly with our mission."
