The Amavubi Stars head coach Branko Tucak has refused to throw in the towel as far as Rwanda’s qualification chances for the 2010 World/African Nations Cup are concerned.

The Croat, who clearly underlined helping Rwanda qualify for the 2010 World Cup as one of his immediate goals when he took over the hot seat last year is still adamant about Rwanda’s chances despite last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Zambia.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Branko insisted that Rwanda still has a good chance of making the trip to South Africa and Angola for the 2010 Africa Nations Cup.

"My objective is still to guide Rwanda to the 2010 World/Nations Cup. This Group (C) is open and every team can defeat the other,” he said.

"We have to get our heads straight and start preparations.”

Rwanda has managed a sole point from her two Group C games. Amavubi managed a goalless draw in their opening qualifier against Algeria. 

It is widely believed that Rwanda may continue struggling in her remaining games if Tucak does not adjust the team’s tactics and formation that has failed the team.

The Croat has been criticized for relying on off-form players like Said Abedi Makasi, Elias Ntaganda and Aloua Gaseruka.

In particular, Gaseruka has been criticized for his reckless challenges in the penalty box. The defender was at fault last Saturday after a clumsy challenge on Zambia’s defender Emmanuel Mbola.

With only 26 days left before their crucial game against Egypt, Rwanda need to start early preparations.

Latest reports indicate that the team has already lined up a friendly with DR. Congo on June 30 in Kinshasa as part of their build up to Egypt game. The tie is slated for July 5.

Algeria’s 3-1 victory over Egypt took them to the summit of Group C level with Zambia on four points but top the Group on goal difference.

Rwanda is third while Egypt is at the foot of the group also on goal difference.
