GAKENKE — Twenty families of Genocide survivors in Kivuluga Sector, Gakenke District over the weekend received an assortment of food items donated by the Higher Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry-ISAE Busogo.
The items included beans, maize flour, 20 blankets and one Friesian heifer.
Speaking to The New Times, the Rector, Dr Charles Karemangingo, said that the donation was part of the university policy of reaching out to needy families.
The university delegation later joined the area residents to lay wreaths on Busogo Genocide memorial site where an estimated 896 victims are buried.
Dr. Karemanjingo noted that Rwandans have an obligation of supporting Genocide survivors.
He added that the institute has initiated a programme of working with local authorities to offer technical support to farmers in order to boost agricultural transformation.
