Rwanda Revenue Authority (women) and Police (men) kick off their topflight volleyball league campaign in style, seeing off Kepler and Rwanda Energy Group (REG) respectively in opening games held at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium on Friday, October 18.

RRA took an early lead and, thanks to their strong hitting, took the first set 25-22. Kepler came in the second set fighting to level the game but RRA seemed tough to destroy and claimed the set 25-21.

Kepler coach Florien Siborurema tried to adjust the mistakes that cost his side the first two sets in an attempt to keep his team in the game. Despite showing structured play and defence, RRA eventually outplayed them to win the final set 25-22

The 2024-25 women’s league attracted eight teams including: RRA WVC, APR WVC, Police WVC, Ruhango WVC, EAUR WVC, Kepler WVC, Wisdom School and RP Huye College.

Three new teams namely Wisdom School, RP Huye and Kepler WVC are having their maiden topflight volleyball season.

In the men’s category, Police beat REG 3-0 (25-19, 25-14,25-11) in the opening game of the season.

Both teams started testing each other out in the first set, trying to find spaces in the back court and scoring with powerful cross court hits. Police took the first set hitting 25-19 win. It was arguably the law enforcers’ toughest set of the game, before hitting REG hard in the last two sets 25-14 and 25-11.

Action continues at Petit Stade gymnasium as Kepler men’s volleyball club take on REG while, in women’s category, Ruhango go up against Wisdom School.
