EMMANUEL Nsengiyumva returned to the groove with a nerveless final round of 67net on Sunday to win this year’s Captains Cup by an emphatic three-shot margin at Kigali Golf Club.

The 23-year-old golfer corrected a jagged day one outing on Saturday with precious birdies on holes 10 and 14 to sign for a pulsating 67net and finish the tournament on five-under-par.

He collected six pars on the back nine as he eased to his second title in as many weeks. At the end, it proved a comprehensive triumph for the former national team golfer who added the victory to the Presidents Cup gong.

"I’m very excited about yesterday’s win. My putting was fantastic,” he said. "I played more aggressively and thought if I got to three or four under (on the day), the tournament is for me.”

Davis Kashaka finished in a tie for second on two-under after stroking a final round of 70. Kashaka, one of Rwanda’s vastly experienced golfers beat Charles Ntare on count back.

Else where, Phillip Jacobs was made to work hard for his fourth title of the season in Group two (handicap 10-18). The handicap 18 golfer beat the surging Roger Bayingana on count back after a tie on a sparkling round of 66net.

Willy Rugema lifted himself from a slow start to top Group 3 (handicap 19-28) after returning 42 stable ford points while Alphonsine Murekatete carded 44 points to emerge victorious in the ladies category.

The two-day event which also had a caddies’ and junior golfers’ competitions was sponsored by Computer Point.
