Despite Amavubi’s 1-0 loss to Chipolopolo of Zambia on Saturday, Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura insists that Rwanda still has a good chance of qualifying for the 2010 World/Africa Nations Cup in South Africa and Angola respectively.
"Losing to Zambia should not be the end of Amavubi’s qualification campaign. There are still four matches to be played and so the team is now concentrating on the next game (Egypt),” he told Times Sport by phone yesterday.
"The team played well but failed to score when the chances came, and I think that is something we have to look into before our next match.
"Even top professional players sometimes miss. Christiano Ronaldo failed to convert some chances in this year’s Champions League final and his team was made to pay when they eventually lost 2-0 against Barcelona,” the General reasoned.
"So we shall not let the Zambia result affect the team’s morale going into the remaining qualifiers,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Amavubi’s inspirational midfielder cum defender Patrick Mafisango also said yesterday that although they lost to Zambia, they had taken some encouragement from Algerian’s win over African champions Egypt.
"We were a bit down on morale after losing on Saturday but after learning about Egypt’s loss, we are now confident of taking something from our next match against them (Egypt),” he noted.
"It will be a tough match but we shall approach it in a positive way and we are optimistic of qualifying for at least the Africa Nations Cup,” the APR player added.
The Amavubi-Egypt fixture is scheduled for July 5 in Cairo.
