Over the weekend, Rwandans concluded the 16th National Environmental Week celebrations. With the theme, ‘Your Planet Needs You- Unite to Combat Climate Change’, people were made aware of the difference they can make in the environment.

Today there are many things around the world that destroy the environment. In developed countries there are very big factories and industries that pollute the air with dangerous gases.

As a result, our climate has been affected and this has resulted in the destruction of the Ozone layer. This layer is the one that protects the planet earth and everything that lives in it from the dangerous rays of the sun.

Today, we hear about unexpected floods, droughts, hurricanes and storms which are a result of climate change. Climate change has become one of the world’s biggest challenges and countries are now finding ways of saving the Planet Earth from being destroyed.

Children too can be part of this by making a big difference in the environment. While at school and home, there are many things we can do to protect our environment. We can plant trees get rid of all plastics by burning them because they cannot rot.

If all children did this for the rest of their lives, our environment will be conserved and protected as we live in harmony on planet earth.
