Hoops: FIBA Zone V tourney to attract seven teams

With exactly 10 days to go, at least seven teams have confirmed their participation in the forthcoming FIBA Africa women Zone V Club Championship in Zanzibar, according to organisers.

The week-long tournament is scheduled for October 27 to November 2.

This year’s regional championship will attract the champions of Ethiopia, Egypt, Uganda, Rwanda and hosts Tanzania.

Rwanda will have two representatives at the tournament including 2024 league champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and APR who finished the season as runners-up.

The same teams took part in the previous edition of the Zone V women’s championship held in Kigali where REG finished in second place after losing 53-87 to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in the final.

The two teams eventually qualified for 2023 FIBA Africa Champions Cup that took place in Egypt in December 2023.

Al Alhy (Egypt), Hawassa City (Ethiopia), APR (Rwanda), REG (Rwanda), Fox Divas (Tanzania), Vijana Queens (Tanzania) and JKL Lady (Uganda).
