The national golf team has entered its final preparations ahead of this year’s All Africa Challenge Cup scheduled for October 27-30 in Namibia.
The four-man team includes Jean Baptiste Hakizimana, Ernest Ndayisenga, Olivier Munyaneza and Celestin Habineza.
According to Kigali Golf Club captain Rajan Tiwari, the players have had enough time (three-week) preparing for the four-day event that start this Saturday and runs until Monday.
"There has been a steady improvement in the team and this gives us some hope for a good show ahead of the tournament,” Tiwari said.
At the event, Rwandan golfers are expected to contend with some of African’s finest golfers coming from countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Zambia and Namibia.
"Saying that our golfers will win the event would be extreme because the sport is just developing in Rwanda and yet it is fairly well established in some of these countries,” the club captain continued.
Last year, over 12 countries turned up for the event which was staged in Uganda’s capital Kampala.
It was the biggest number of entrants for the competition since its inception sixteen years ago and it is yet to be confirmed if this participation record will be over-run this year.
