MTN Rwanda has officially welcomed the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  Khaled Mikkawi, the former CEO of the MTN operation in Liberia. This follows a recent reshuffle by MTN Group of its CEOs in Africa.

At cocktail party held at the Serena Hotel Kigali on Thursday, Rwanda’s largest telecom company by market share also bid farewell to Themba Khumalo.

Khumalo is now the CEO of MTN Uganda.

"When Khumalo joined MTN Rwanda, it was relatively a small company but we have seen the company change significantly over the years.” said John Milenge, Chairman MTN Rwanda, pointing out that the former CEO has helped the Company to increase penetration of the market. He said MTN Rwanda now has close to 1.4 million active subscribers.

For almost three years, Khumalo’s term in office saw MTN re-packaging its products including scrapping off of access fee and the launch of Home and Away package – a  package that  allows MTN subscribers  to roam at affordable rates across East Africa.

In his brief remarks, Khumalo extended appreciation to his Rwandan team during his term of office that helped him to make the company grow.

The incoming CEO, Mikkawi, pledged to build up on the existing achievements and develop the Company further.

"I will go ahead to main our principles as MTN Group, to achieve our vision of being the leading telecoms player in emerging markets” He said.
