Rwanda’s volleyball referees are gathering for a two-day retreat aimed at sharpening their skills towards improved officiating ahead of the forthcoming 2024-2025 volleyball season which kicks off on Friday, October 18.
The training course, which began on Saturday, October 12, has attracted 80 referees from various levels, including national, regional, and international officials.
Alphonse Ndayisaba, the head of the local volleyball organization Rwanda Zero, emphasized the significance of the retreat in enhancing referees' knowledge both on the field and with respect to international volleyball rules.
"This is an annual training course designed for referees who participate in all volleyball competitions in Rwanda, including beach volleyball," he stated.
The primary goal, he said, is to improve their officiating skills and review the rules governing both indoor and beach volleyball.
