RUSIZI — Residents of Mururu Sector in Rusizi District on Wednesday found a body of an unidentified man floating in Lake Kivu. Security sources at Mutongo Police post where the matter was reported, said police suspected murder and investigations are still ongoing.

"Those who first saw the body said that it was discovered on the shores of Lake Kivu. We are still investigating the matter to establish whether the death was due to drowning or the body came from other sectors of the district or even from Bukavu in DRC,” police said.

The body was taken to Gihundwe Hospital for a postmortem. By press time the body was lying at the hospital mortuary unclaimed.

Speaking to The New Times last Wednesday  a doctor who carried out the postmortem said that the results indicated that the deceased had been seriously hit in the forehead and cut in the neck before being thrown in the lake.
