NGOMA — About Rwf11.6 m has been collected in the on-going "One Dollar campaign” which was launched last week in Kirehe District.

The money was collected from five sectors of the district where the campaign was spearheaded by local musicians, Intore Masamba and Erick Senderi.

Rwf4.5 m was collected from Kigina and Kirehe sectors while Rwf.3.5 million was collected from Nyamugari Sector.

Rwf2 m and Rwf1.6m was collected from the sectors of Gatore and Nyarubuye respectively.

The campaign is geared at building houses for needy student victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, who still lack shelter.

The 10-day campaign in the district is expected to end this week after moving across the district.

Commenting on the exercise, Bernadette Kamungu, the district deputy Mayor in charge Social Affairs said: "We are yet to establish the real number of children who will benefit from this project. But what we are sure of is that a big number of them are from Nyarubuye Sector which was mostly affected by the Genocide.”
