Church leaders should be exemplary

Editor,

Allow me to register my disappointment over an article that appeared in your paper "85 year old Pastor remarries” on Monday this week.

It was reported that the 85 year old pastor had married Grace Rwagitare, a woman who is forty years his junior. Not only is the pastor very old but he also is a father to eight children and a grandfather to 20 children.

While the pastor has full rights to marry any woman as long as they are above 18 years of age, this man of God has set a very bad precedence.

Ideally as people who are chosen and appointed by God, one expects more from the pastor. At least I expected him to exercise some moral restraint and resist from "just marrying”.

Such a marriage union sets a bad example for the young generation which looks to the older generation for knowledge and wisdom.

The young generation specifically might wrongly assume that age does not matter in relationships yet it does. Age has never been just a number. Besides it is widely believed in the African tradition that age goes with wisdom. Disappointed !
