Former Rwandan journalist Bonnie Mugabe currently works as a safety and security manager at the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).

Having successfully finished a FIFA Masters’ Degree, he joined FIFA in 2020, mainly serving on its safety and security team. The latter is responsible for setting the requirements and standards that must be met with regard to safety and security at tournaments and events.

In an interview with FIFA media recently, Mugabe noted that his team also provides support and expert advice on safety, security and service-related matters to host countries, confederations and member associations in the planning and delivery of safe and secure FIFA tournaments and events.

"To achieve this, we administer and conduct training for FIFA safety and security officers, monitor FIFA matches, collaborate with other functional areas (internal departments) and stakeholders such as the member associations, FIFA, other confederations, UN, AU, Interpol, and local organising committees, among others,” he said.

Mugabe who previously worked as a sports journalist for The New Times said he works closely with organizing committees and other host country security entities in developing strategic security concepts and strategies to manage the day-to-day safety and security operations during FIFA tournaments and events.
