AFTER the first round of the women football league, reigning champions APR find themselves in a very unfamiliar position on the league table.
The military side is two points adrift of league leaders AS Kigali, who have 22 points and only a point ahead of third placed Musanze. However, APR coach Egidia Kayitesi insists that the team’s current position is down to a poor start in the first round.
"We had the worst possible start after drawing most of our matches. We also lacked some of our top players due to injury,” she said before adding.
"But the most important thing now is that the team has the hunger and desire to turn things round. We can still leapfrog AS Kigali,” she added.
APR is hitting top form at the right time. The team’s last game ended when the reigning champions humiliated Rayon Sport in a 9-0 thriller.
AS Kigali Coach Grace Nyiranumutu has meanwhile hit back at her APR rival insisting that her team will not buckle under pressure.
"There is huge confidence in the side and a big feeling that we can actually dethrone APR,” she said.
