Amavubi midfielders Anicet Ishimwe and Bonheur Mugisha have said the team has what it takes to overcome Benin when the two sides lock horns in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Friday, October 11.

"It is a big honour to play for my country because it’s the dream of every professional footballer. We will work hard and give our best, trying to use the opportunities we will get. We have a good team and we are confident of winning,” Mugisha said.

Rwanda has never returned to the AFCON since its debut in 2004.

"Morale is high in the team, but we can’t afford to take anything for granted,” Mugisha added.

For Ishimwe, this is the biggest game for players like him, and he emphasised that they should be ready to face Benin which he described as a strong side.

"We know it won’t be an easy match but we are going to give everything to see that we can win,” he noted.

Rwanda are currently third in Group D having recorded a 1-1 draw with Libya in Tripoli before holding Group leaders Nigeria to a 0-0 draw in Kigali. Benin on the other hand are second in the Group. They lost 3-0 to Nigeria before coming from behind to beat Libya 2-1 in Abidjan.
