Eight regional clubs have confirmed their participation in the12th edition of the Genocide Memorial tournament set for June 6-7 in Kigali.

According to the local volleyball federation, Uganda has sent three clubs including KAVC, KCC, and Sport S while Kenya will be represented by Posta and Kenya Commercial Bank in the male and female categories.

Neighbors Burundi will be represented by Muzinga, Bun and Les AS respectively. Meanwhile, more confirmations are being awaited from DR Congo and Ethiopia.

Hosts Rwanda has lined up UNR, KVC, CXR and APR to compete in the male category while RRA, ESI, Rwamagana, Ruhango, UNR and APR will also send their female teams to grace the event.

The federation has received sponsorship from CNLG worth Rwf. 8 million and CSR has injected Rwf. 3 millions in the two-day event.

The event is held to commemorate fallen volleyball players, coaches, referees and fans of the sport, who were massacred in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Amahoro indoor courts and Kimisagara stadium will stage the event.

APR is the defending champion in the men’s category while Kenya Commercial bank hope to retain the trophy in women’s category.
