Ten officials from Musebeya Sector in Nyamagabe District on October 8 submitted their letters of resignation amidst allegations of misappropriation of about Rwf3 million allocated for Community Based Health Insurance, commonly known as Mutuelle de Santé.

"The officials involved are six cell executive secretaries and four Socio-Economic Development Officers (SEDO), in cells of Musebeya Sector," Hildebrand Niyomwungeri, the Mayor of Nyamagabe District, stated in an interview with The New Times.

"We cannot definitively confirm their resignation, as the letters they submitted do not explicitly state this. Eight of them requested a suspension of duties for an unspecified period, while two formally resigned."

During a meeting, on September 3, the officials were confronted with their shortcomings regarding the misappropriation of funds.

Although they initially refunded the money and resumed their duties, their ability to mobilize community support for fund collection diminished, it is noted. "It appears they realized their shortcomings and chose to submit their letters," he noted.

To ensure uninterrupted service delivery, the district administration plans to swiftly replace the resigned officials within two days.

"We already have candidates who previously sat for exams for other cell positions that were understaffed," the Mayor added.

"In total, we have 92 cells that require 184 employees, and those who passed the exams will be considered for these roles."

He reassured the community, stating, "There is no need for concern, as changes in personnel are a routine matter. We encourage the public to remain engaged in the payment of Mutuelle funds, and we will not tolerate any disruptions to these initiatives."
