Rwanda vs Sudan
Time: 5:00pm (CAT)
Venue: Azam Sports Complex, Dar es Salaam
Rwanda will face Sudan at the Azam Sports Complex in Tanzania on Tuesday, October 8 in a 2024 CECAFA U20 Group A game.
While it will be the first game for Amavubi juniors team, the Sudanese will be in for their second game of the competition after defeating Djibouti 3-1 in their opening match on Sunday.
Eric Nshimiyimana’s side had intensive preparations for the tournament during which the country played three friendly games before they departed for Tanzania.
They won once and lost once while the other match ended in a draw.
Nshimiyimana seems to have sharpened the rough edges in the team and he will be aiming for victory against a well drilled Sudanese side.
Sudanese head coach Mohammed Ibrahim Awadalla Ali is beaming with confidence after the victory over Djibouti and he will be looking to build on the result when they face Rwanda on Tuesday.
"Winning our first game 3-1 against Djibouti is a very good start for us in the tournament. We hope we can do better as the competition progresses,” Awadalla told the press on Monday.
In terms of talent, Rwanda are no pushovers. The junior team consists of seasonal players who have played or are playing at an appreciable level. The likes of striker Thierry Musabyimana, formerly of Le Havre U19, has already trained with Rwandan senior national team; Jesus Paul Sindi festures for Rayon Sports in Rwanda Premier League while Laurent Petry has proven to be a superb talent in the Swedish lower division.
For Sudan, danger man Monzer Abo Khamis Tiya, who scored the opening goal against Djibouti after only three minutes, as well as Musa Hussein will be the players to watch on Tueday. The two have proven that they can decide the outcome of games with just one moment of brilliance.
It will be an action-packed game worth watching as both teams the needed quality.
