Rwanda Energy Group (REG) volleyball club added a significant firepower to their roster for the 2024/25 season with the latest signing of Brazilian setter Mathaus Wojtylla Mesquita Campos on a three-year deal.
REG finished in third place in the 2024 season and Campos’ arrival marks a notable shift for the club which now aims to elevate their standing in the volleyball scene in the domestic league and Africa at large.
With a towering height of 194 cm and a career built across several continents, Campos, who joined from Romanian side Stiinta Exporari Baia Mare, promises to be a key player in REG’s quest for dominance.
Born on June 25, 2000, in Brazil, Campos has a dynamic career spanning multiple countries and leagues. His journey as a professional volleyball player began in his homeland Brazil but, soon after, he ventured beyond, seizing opportunities to hone his skills and prove his versatility.
In the 2020/21 season, he was a part of Vedacit Vôlei Guarulhos, competing in Brazil’s Superliga, a well-regarded league known for producing world-class talent.
Following his stint in Brazil, he expanded his professional footprint, joining Kosovo-based side KV Peja for which he played during the 2022/23 season. His stint in Europe didn’t end there; he signed with Știința Explorări Baia Mare in Romania for the 2023/24 season, competing in one of Eastern Europe's competitive volleyball leagues.

These experiences across diverse teams and playing conditions molded Campos into a setter capable of adjusting to various playing styles, enhancing both his technical and tactical prowess on the court.
Campos is known for his strategic playmaking abilities as a setter, but his physical prowess also plays a vital role in his contribution. With a spike reach of 330 cm and a block reach of 315 cm, he excels both offensively and defensively.
With the recent move to REG Volleyball Club, the setter adds international experience to a team already known for its competitive spirit in regional tournaments. His presence is expected to elevate the squad’s gameplay, thanks to his ability to execute strategic playmaking while providing a strong defensive backbone.
"I’m excited to join REG and contribute my experience from playing in various leagues. I believe we can achieve great things together,” Mathaus said upon arrival at the club with which he looks forward to his new chapter in Rwanda.
