October 4, 2024—In June 2024, MTN Rwandacell Ltd (MTN Rwanda) launched its annual Y’ello Care initiative under the theme "Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow: Education for Rural and Remote Communities.” As part of this initiative, various impactful activities were carried out to empower education in rural areas. These efforts included providing solar power to a school, ensuring reliable electricity for learning, and constructing kitchens to support meal programmes for students, enhancing both their learning environment and overall well-being.

MTN Rwanda has officially opened a newly built, modern kitchen at GS Bukure after three months of construction. The kitchen will serve nutritious meals to over 1,500 students, enhancing their well-being and learning experience. By ensuring access to healthy food, MTN Rwanda aims to support the students’ academic performance and contribute to their physical and cognitive development, reinforcing its commitment to empowering the next generation through sustainable initiatives. This project underscores MTN Rwanda’s dedication to uplifting communities and fostering a brighter future for Rwanda.

"The Y’ello Care initiative allows us to give back to the communities we serve, and building this kitchen is one of the most impactful contributions we could make. Not only are we supporting our current community, but we are also investing in the future of Rwanda.

"At MTN Rwanda, education is one of our core pillars in corporate social investment because we believe it is a key driver of not only success but development. This journey starts with proper nutrition, which is why this kitchen was built, to fuel the minds and bodies of our future leaders. In addition to this kitchen, MTN Rwanda has committed to feeding 10,000 students in Rwanda for the 2024-2025 academic year,” said Mapula Bodibe, MTN Rwanda’s Chief Executive Officer.

In June 2024, Mobile Money Rwanda, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Umwalimu SACCO, launched the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ campaign to support Rwanda’s school feeding programme. MTN Rwanda, as part of its Corporate Social Investment, has committed Rwf 30,000,000 to this initiative, covering meals for 10,000 students during the 2024-2025 academic year.

This pledge reinforces MTN’s dedication to nurturing the next generation by ensuring students can focus on their education without the burden of hunger. Through the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ programme, MTN Rwanda aims to make a lasting impact on students’ lives, contributing to their health, education, and future success.

"This initiative exemplifies MTN Rwanda’s dedication to Corporate Social Investment. It emphasises our collective duty to foster a stronger, more prosperous Rwanda. By supporting the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ programme, we are not just providing meals to students; we are nurturing their potential, education, and dreams. I urge other organisations and individuals to join this worthy cause, as investing in a child’s future begins with something as simple and impactful as one meal. Together, we can create a lasting difference,” stated Chantal Kagame, Mobile Money Rwanda’s Chief Executive Officer.
