American center, Kristina Morgan led the scoring with 25 points and 11 rebounds to power Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women’s basketball club to a 76-51 win over APR at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium on October 6.

The win saw Julian Martinez’s side extend their betPawa finals lead to 2-0, having beaten APR women 68-67 in Game 1 on Friday, October 4.

REG were so dominant from the very beginning of the game, taking the first quarter 26-11 and they maintained their 15-point lead at the break after both sides were tied to 11-11 in the second quarter. Back in the second half, APR showed some energy, pace and fighting spirit to take the third quarter 19-16 but REG remained unstoppable, winning the fourth quarter 23-10.

Kenyan small forward Victoria Reynolds and Nelly Irakoze contributed 23 points and 14 points respectively to the winning side while Malian small forward Kamba Diakite led the way for APR with 14 points followed by Sifa Ineza who scored 11 points.

The two local basketball heavyweights return to action in Game 3 on October 9 at Petit Stade.

Meanwhile, for their first-ever appearance in the league, Kepler women basketball club squeezed a 74-47 win over Marie Reine on Sunday to finish the 2024 women’s basketball league season in third place.
