Military chiefs from four Great Lakes region states will meet in from August 27-28 to continue efforts aimed at reaching a consensus on the appropriate approach to wipe out negative forces from the region.

According to the Rwanda Defence Forces Spokesperson, Maj. Jill Rutaremara, the meeting will bring together military chiefs from , Democratic Republic of Congo, and .

He said the meeting will study each country’s intelligence report on its wanted dissidents and the way forward to deal with them.

Rutaremara said that the Chiefs of Defence Forces (CDFs) and Chiefs of General Staff (CGSs) would use the available intelligence details and reports provided by the Kisangani-based Tripartite Fusion Cell (TFC) as a platform to counter armed groups in the region.

 "Generally the meeting is about agreeing on military action against different militias destabilising the region,” the RDF publicist said yesterday.

The military chiefs had three months ago in Bujumbura, Burundi, where they laid the ground for the future action against the negative forces which include the Forces for the Democratic Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).

The forum of military chiefs is one of the clusters under the US-initiated Tripartite Plus Joint Commission (TPJC) comprising the four countries, and backed by the United Nations.
