MUHANGA - Prime Minister Bernard Makuza has commended the pace of development in Muhanga District and called upon residents to work hard with hope of transforming their society to self dependence.
Makuza made the remarks on Thursday while winding up his two-day official visit in the district, which was aimed accessing the implementation of development programmes in the area.
Makuza was accompanied by Ministers Christophe Bazivamo (Agriculture), Daphrose Gahakwa (Education) and Christine Nyatanyi (State, Local Government), Members of Parliament and several government officials.
The team visited Munyinya Primary School, a Soya and milk processing plant, exemplary farmers and cooperatives, hospitality facilities and a farmers’ saving scheme in the district.
"The pace of development is commendable and certainly needs supports from government because there is evidence of growth,” he said urging residents to work hard and expedite growth with perfection and hope to increase domestic output.
Makuza commended agricultural and livestock activities in Nyarusange and Nyamabuye Sector saying that these have tremendous input to the development.
He cited residents’ efforts of land consolidation, establishment of contour terraces and extensive farming activities of coffee and cassava plantations saying that these are major catalysts for the country’s development.
The Mayor of Muhanga, Yvonne Mutakwasuku, said that there are intensions of giving a facelift to Gitarama town with modern facilities, increased hygiene, working hours and promoting the private sector.
Residents of Nyarusange noted achievements in education, justice, social welfare and health and requested the government to increase electricity and water supply to boost the growth.
The Prime Minister shared views on various aspects of growth and social transformation through work, education, culture, unity and security.
