President Paul Kagame is set to be featured in a documentary film ‘The Rescuers, Heroes of the Holocaust,’ by filmmaker Michael King which is scheduled for release early next year.

"The President’s role in the film will touch on his role not just in ending the Genocide, but also his diplomacy in speaking out against other Genocides,” King said.

The feature documentary is a retold story of holocaust survivors and non diplomats whose heroic efforts saved the lives of others.

"The documentary aims at giving faces to people who stood up for goodness when their governments did not, people who for the sake of goodness chose to save others and risk their own lives,” said King.

The documentary will be seen through the eyes of Stephanie Nyombayire, a young Rwandan woman and anti-genocide activist who lost more than 100 family members during the Genocide in Rwanda.

"People talk about the holocaust as a past thing but they don’t understand how avoidable it all was. This documentary connects the past and the present and shows us that it is possible to do something. The heroes of the film show us that good can be done,” said Nyombayire.

According to King, Nyombayire was the perfect person to tell the stories as she had gone through a similar loss; she had credibility to tell the stories of others in her country.

The documentary highlights other rescuers of the 1994 Genocide such as Silas Ntamfurigirishyari who moved 18 people to Burundi during the Genocide, Damas Gisimba who helped hundreds of orphans and Janvier Kwihangana, an orphan of the Genocide.
