Rayon Sports head coach Roberto Oliveira Gonçalves do Carmo 'Robertinho’ is optimistic his side can keep the momentum and win more games after yet another win over Rutsiro FC in Rubavu over the weekend.
Hadji Iraguha scored the lone goal as the Blues overcame Rutsiro FC in Saturday’s narrow 1-0 win at Umuganda Stadium.
It was the team’s second win in a row after they beat Gasogi United 1-0 at Amahoro Stadium on September 21 but Robertinho wants more from his players as the league season takes shape.
"The first very important thing is to win many matches in the league. The players are hungry to improve and to prove that they can win any match ahead of them which is very good for me as a coach,” the Brazilian coach said.
"Our aim is to keep winning our matches because we want to stay near the top of the table. It is tough a season but we’re confident we can win the game to continue our good performance as we did in the last two matches.”
Rayon Sports had a slow start to the Rwanda Premier League campaign, drawing twice against Marines FC and Amagaju FC but the recent victories sparked a sigh of relief in the club.
"We went through a difficult period at the start of season but I believe we learnt some important lessons which will guide us in the next matches,” Robertinho said.
" Last weekend’s win (over Rutsiro) boosted our confidence and morale; it will be disappointing if we don’t build on it and get positive results going forward. Our confidence is pretty high and hopefully we can keep on winning more matches.”
After four matches, Rayon Sports sit in fourth place with eight points, three behind Police FC who are leading the table with 11 points. Gorilla FC and AS Kigali are second and third respectively with 10 points each.
Rayon Sports are on a quest for their first league title since the 2018/2019 season.
