Barca’s real threat is Rooney, not Ronaldo

Editor,

I don’t care if Ronaldo is the FIFA World Player of the year or the 2008-2009 English Premier League (EPL) player of the season; I still think that Wayne Rooney is one player who grinds out results on the big stage.

It’s true that Ronaldo has become a much better player over the last two-three seasons but for me, I still think that he always shies away during big games.

Ahead of tonight’s UEFA Champion League final between Manchester United and Barcelona, Barcelona playmaker Andres Iniesta has cautioned his back-line to keep a close eye on Wayne Rooney and I totally agree.

Although Rooney may not have scored the number of goals Barca’s forward line have plundered this season, I believe that the England international’s sublime work ethic makes him a central player for the Red Devils who are eager to become the first team in to retain the Champions League trophy in history.
