Onatracom a public transport company has imported four luxurious buses with a power track system technology that will see it improve transportation on both its regional and local routes.

For the first time in its history, the government owned company purchased the buses from its own budget whose total cost was $0.4 million (Rwf226.1million).

"The buses are luxurious, designed to suit the passenger’s comfort because their comfort is our concern and we are in a position to compete with other regional transport operators,” said Esdras Nkundumukiza, the Managing Director of Onatracom.

Currently, the transport company offers three services a day for Kigali - Kampala route and one service for Kigali- Bujumbura route. The company plans to open a route to Nairobi in the near future.

The transport facilities are also fully installed with a system that enables live tracking of the bus wherever it is. It also ensures fuel management, speed control and maintenance alert systems.

With this technology, the buses can be monitored from the base in Kigali to, across the whole region, where they may have reached.

The buses are designed with side fabric upholstery, fabric on dash boards, floor studded tiles, fabric seats, headrests and covers, fabric covered with internal roof rack and flip screen televisions.

"It is our great pleasure to present the public with the buses, our main objective is the general interest of the public and its socio-economic orientation makes it seem quite different from others,” added Nkndumukiza.

Rwanda’s public transport authority is a public institution which has a legal personality and financial autonomy and it is governed by laws governing public institutions. It is also supervised by the ministry in charge of transportation.
