Game 1: APR Women 96-65 Marie Reine

APR women basketball club proved their championship credentials in the opening game of the semifinals playoffs series, securing a convincing 96-65 victory against Groupe Scolaire Marie Reine de Rwaza at Petit Stade on Friday night.

APR were so dominant from the outset, leading 27-18 in the first quarter. Courtesy of their experience, Charles Mushumba's lionesses’ extended their lead to 49-26 before the pair headed into the halftime break.

The likes of Ebengo Feza put up outstanding performances that helped APR execute their game plan effectively, with sharp shooting and well-organised defense.

The team’s offense was fluid, finding open looks and taking advantage of turnovers, while their defensive pressure stifled Marie Reine's scoring opportunities.

APR outscored underdogs Marie Reine by five and three points in the third and fourth quarter respectively., claiming Game 1 in convincing fashion.

Despite a spirited effort from Marie Reine, who fought back with determined plays, the army side's depth in roster and skill proved too difficult to handle.

APR registered 69 rebounds and 28 assists against Marie Reine's 35 and 14 respectively. Marie Reine will need to regroup to destroy APR if they are to tie the series when both sides face off in Game 2 on Sunday, September 29.

Meanwhile, star point guard Rosine Micomyiza scored 21 points on a 7-11 shooting as REG women basketball club brushed aside Kepler in a resounding 107-45 Game 1 win.

The semifinals playoffs of the women basketball league will be played in a best-of-five series, while the finals will be extended to a best-of-seven series.
