The Kiyovu Sports Club President, Juvénal Mvukiyehe, has said that he did not change his mind on his resignation plan and will no longer be in charge of the board at the end of November.
In an interview with Radio Rwanda on Tuesday, October 25, Mvukiyehe said that he was insulted by the way people around him understand modern football business.
He said: "The thing I regret is that I came to people who don't understand it. Let me start from FERWAFA; they don't understand it, they’re far from it, they’re far from football even.”
The man, who had one year left to the end of his three-year term, also said he was disappointed with Kiyovu supporters because they did not stand with him.
He explained that the way the team is structured, as an organization, does not make it easy for the club to be productive. As Kiyovu Sports has 131 members, each contributing Rwf120,000 per year. Additional income from partners including Azam and the City of Kigali could amount to Rwf80 million.
Mvukiyehe said that after seeing that the team didn’t have the budget to compete with others who use a budget of up to Rwf1 billion, he proposed to build a team that competes for trophies as they were near to it in the previous season when they finished second behind APR FC.
He said "to achieve this means bringing in good players, coaches and other many things. That cost me a lot, but after all this effort, Kiyovu fan showed no support to the extent that they don’t even come to stadiums to support their team.”
Mvukiyehe, who backtracked his resignation decision on September 30, after he resigned the day before, stressed that after two months he will leave the board of Kiyovu Sports because he cannot fulfill his duties due to the club’s limited finances.
