Former Senate President François-Xavier Kalinda was on Thursday, September 26, re-elected to the post with 25 votes, out of 26, soon after the new senators were sworn.

The former member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), first became Senate President in January 2023, less than a month after former Senate President, Augustin Iyamuremye, resigned due to illness.
