Gen Muganga, Seychelles military chief discuss defence cooperation

Gen Mubarakh Muganga, Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), met his counterpart Brigadier Michael Rosette of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces on Tuesday, September 24, in Kigali, for a discussion on bilateral defence cooperation and enhancing operational capabilities.

Rosette also met with Minister of Defence Juvenal Marizamunda.

The discussions revolved around implementing the memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation, which was signed between the two nations in 2023.

Rosette said that the purpose of his visit was to strengthen the existing defence cooperation between Rwanda and Seychelles.

Key areas of focus included maritime security, counter-terrorism efforts, and the exchange of military training and information.

According to RDF, the Seychellois military chief’s visit was an important step in reinforcing the defence relationship and ensuring both countries continue to collaborate in matters of common security challenges.

The two militaries have cooperation in maritime security, counter-terrorism, exchange of information, exchange of military training, among others, the RDF said in statement on Tuesday.

"The visit marks another milestone in the military relations between Rwanda and Seychelles, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to continue fostering cooperation and collaboration in the defence and security domains,” statement reads in part.

Rosette will visit the Rwanda Military Academy in Gako in Bugesera District.
