Every one wants to leave office with a bang and Jack Kayonga is no exception. The Kigali Golf Club president is one of 50 local golfers set to line up alongside a legion of 30 Ugandan amateur golfers in today’s Presidents Cup.
"I’m looking forward to the competition and hope I will be among the day’s winners,” Kayonga, who has had a quiet start to the 2009 season said.
The 18-hole event, to be played under stroke play has attracted a big field of sponsors ranging from Banque de Kigali (BK) as lead sponsors, Eco Bank, Rwanda Development Bank (RDB), Bralirwa and Pembe.
Presidents Cup is an annual event on the KGC calendar held in honour of the out-going club president. It is also a taken of appreciation to the out-going president from the club members. It is a tradition for amateur golf in the region.
Kayonga, who took over the club presidency from Ezra Bunyenyezi in 2008, will not re-contest for the office due to personal reasons.
