Pyramids FC came from behind to defeat APR FC 3-1 at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo on Saturday, September 21, and end their dream of reaching the CAF Champions League group stage.
The Egyptian outfit qualified to the group stage of the competition after achieving a 4-2 aggregate victory.
APR started the game in full force and got the needed early goal through a superb effort from Ghanaian central midfielder Seidu Dauda Yussif in the 11th minute.
The goal gave APR the needed confidence as they pushed for the second goal but it was to no avail.
On the stroke of half time, central defender Mohammed Chibi restored parity for the home side. It was his third goal in three games with APR though one of them was an on goal.
After half time, Ramadan Sobhi had a chance to make it 2-1 for Pyramids but he fluffed his shot off target in the 60th minute.
Fiston Mayele, who scored the equalizer in Kigali, popped up with the second goal for Pyramids in the 67th minute and take control of the game.
The Egyptians controlled the game though APR had some decent chances but failed to utilize them.
Left-back Karim Hafez put the icing on the cake for Pyramids in the 93rd minute with a fine finish as the game ended 3-1 for the Egyptians.
Despite the defeat, APR's general performance proved to be a huge improvement from last season where they were totally thrashed 6-1 by the same opponent.
