Rwanda national U20 head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has named his provisional 28-man squad for the 2024 CECAFA U20 tournament scheduled to take place in Tanzania from October 6-20.
The Junior Amavubi are paired in the same group as host nation Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan and Djibouti.
The summoned squad is dominated by local players except only three foreign-based players including Thierry Musabyimana of USM Gonfreville in France, Yannick Kabera of Asheville Christian Academy in USA as well as Joseph Petty of Landvetter IS in Sweden.
The likes of Pascal Iradukunda and Jesus Paul Sindi of Rayon Sports, Arsene Kanamugire of Gasogi United, Sultan Sibomana of Marines FC are among a host of players with Premier League experience who are in the squad.
However, 2023/24 Rwanda Premier League young player of the year Elie Tatou Iradukunda of Mukura Victory Sports is among the high profile teenagers that Nshimiyimana snubbed from his squad.
The CECAFA U20 tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2025 AFCON U20 tournament which will be played in a yet to be determined country.
