GATUNA – The third batch of 90 Rwandans formerly living in Nakivale and Oruchinga refugee camps in Western Uganda were repatriated on Tuesday.

The group comprising of 44 females and 46 males entered Rwanda through Gatuna border at 2.30 pm aboard a bus and two minibuses, including one truck carrying their property.

The returnees were received at the border by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and National Council for Refugees officials.

"I am grateful to be back to my homeland after years in exile,” said Jacqueline Mutoni a mother of two. After undergoing a screening exercise at the border, the returnees were transported in UNHCR buses to Kigali.

"The Red Cross and National Council for Refugees shall cater for the returnees feeding and accommodation needs until they are re-settled in their respective districts,” said the Executive Secretary for the National Council of Refugees, Innocent Ngango.

Ngango told The New Times that more Rwandans are expected to arrive from Uganda through the same border on Thursday, this week.
