SOUTHERN PROVINCE

MUHANGA – Police officers in the Southern Province have reaffirmed their commitment to fight corruption and bribery within their working sites.

They made the resolutions on May 19, during a one-day anti graft workshop conducted by the office of the Ombudsman, in conjunction with the Rwanda National Police. The training was conducted at the Muhanga cultural centre.

In their group discussions, the  police officers said  there is need to increase salaries of police officers in an effort to fight graft among them.

They also called for more anti-graft campaigns, training and strengthening of the police investigation department in order to fight the vice.

Joseph Kajangwe, an official  from the office of the Ombudsman, said  that the officers admitted that there are some rogue elements among them who need to be weeded out  especially from the traffic police.

Speaking on behalf of the Ombudsman, Kajangwe said that the concerns raised by police would be presented to the government.

The training attracted participants from Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango and Nyanza Districts.

Other districts in the province will subsequently receive similar training sessions this week, according to our sources.
