Coach content after win over Gorillas

Gerard Nsenga says he took ‘great satisfaction’ from the way Buffaloes managed to secure victory against arch-rivals Gorillas last Sunday.

The defending champions led by ten points at half-time but mounted a second-half assault to complete a 22-3 win at Rugunga rugby grounds.

Nsenga took extra pleasure from the fact they prevailed despite being made to play outside their comfort zone by a defensive Gorillas side.

"We really had to tough that one out today and it gives me great satisfaction when we win a game like that,” Nsenga said.

"Had they opened up a little, we could have posted a much bigger score but over all, I’m happy that we stuck to the task,” he added.

Nsenga described Sunday’s scoreline as ‘a fair reflection of the game’.

"Their three points came from a penalty so I felt we were the dominant force right through, with or without the ball.”

"I didn’t think we were troubled in any area except for that one play.”

Gorillas coach Paul Boa admitted his men had been outclassed but said he was disappointed that they were unable to keep up the pressure on their opponents.

"I’m a bit disappointed,” he said.

"I thought we started well and put some pressure on Gorillas but we were unable to sustain that.

"We should and could have been closer if only we had been a little bit more clinical.”

Lucien Bikamba and Eric Mbarushimana scored Buffaloes’ tries while John Adams Mugabo made the conversion.

Sunday’s win cemented Buffaloes’ lead at the top with 14 points. UNR Grizzlies are in second place with seven points while Sharks are third with six points.

2007 champions Gorillas and Lion de Fer are tied in fourth place with five points while Puma and Simba are in bottom spot with a point.

Since the inaugural league back in 2004, Lion de Fers have won two titles (2005 & 2006); Gorillas have won two titles (2004 & 2007) while Buffaloes have won one (2008).
